Idaho Press Helps Weekly Paper In Need

Background

A small twice weekly paper in Central Idaho, part of family owned national community newspaper chain; was considering shutting down its press. Their equipment was vintage 1980’s and their pressman was considering retirement in a few months. APG Print Solutions, Western Regional Sales Director had been helping the paper for several months providing special section ideas, sales training and consulting. That relationship developed into printing their gloss visitors guides and a discussion to be a backup printer. A verbal commitment was agreed upon, and a sixty day time frame was given to make the switch.

The Problem

Approximately one week later, the paper’s image center went down , the day before printing the paper’s military weekly. A few days later the Corporate owner made the decision NOT to fix the image setter and told the Publisher to find a new printing facility.

The Solution

Coincidently, Terry happened to be on the phone with the Publisher about another matter and he offered to help. Shortly Roger Stowell, Idaho Press Production Director made plans to print the military weekly the next day. Within hours another Templates were set, schedules adjusted, delivery arranged, and the printing of the main weekly paper was moved to Idaho Press. The Inserting was to remain so distribution people would keep hours. Idaho Press also purchased some high brite paper they had on the floor.
